Microsoft is widely known as a software company first thanks to their popular operating system, Windows, and their productivity software that is bundled under the moniker Office.
Microsoft Office has undergone changes over time from the days of buying disks to the current SaaS (Software as a Service) system (Office 365) where you pay for the new generation of Office plus a host of other goodies.
Well today, Microsoft has announced the next generation of Office software, which is predictably named Office 2019.
According to the company, Office 2019 is scheduled for release for the second half of 2018 and will contain the usual word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook as well as Exchange, Sharepoint and Skype for Businesses.
You may be wondering what is new with Office 2019. “Office 2019 will add new user and IT capabilities for customers who aren’t yet ready for the cloud,” Microsoft says in the post.
There will be new and improved inking features like pressure sensitivity, tilt effects and ink replay. Also, Microsoft has added new formulas and charts to Excel for better data analysis. PowerPoint has been updated with Morph and Zoom to make presentations better. Server enhancements on Office 2019 include updates to voice, security, usability and IT manageability.
Microsoft is targeting Office 2019 for those consumers who are not that into the cloud and would need to keep some or all of their apps. The company says they are looking forward to share more details about the release in the coming months so if you’ve been waiting for an Office release of this nature, this might be the one for you.
